Whenever you are writing code, you are also introducing or creating a bug. Generally, a bug in programming is described as an unexpected or unintended behavior in a program that might cause an error and may also allow for exploits. In this video from the recently concluded Coding Boot Camp 2022, presenter Jim Mckeeth will introduce us and will provide deeper insight into debugging and its important role not just in any Windows program development but also with other platforms like macOS, Linux machine, and mobile platforms like Android and iOS. The session will help us understand bugs, how to handle various errors and the use of various mechanisms such as exception handling and call stack.
How to find, fix, and remove bugs via Debugging?
History-wise, bugs have been around since the 1940s, during the period where Electromechanical and electromagnetic computers are the only computer machines to ever exist. Debugging in programming and engineering is a multistep process that involves identifying a problem, isolating the source of the problem, and then either correcting the problem or determining a way to work around it. In software development, the debugging process begins when a developer locates a code error in a computer program and is able to reproduce it. This process has become an integral part of the entire software development.
In diesem Video, Jim Mckeeth will walk us through the process of debugging a program in Delphi and will provide multiple scenarios and how to deal with them. He will also introduce us to the CodeSite Logging System which gives developers deeper insight into how their code is executing. This also enables them to locate problems more quickly and monitor how well their code is performing. The session also highlights the use of the Call Stack mechanism, a list of all the active functions that have been called to get to the current point of execution. Another mechanism that we will learn from this video is Exception Handling, a powerful mechanism to handle runtime errors so that the normal flow of the application can be maintained.
