A couple of years ago, Ian Barker managed to create a replica of LCARS, the fictional computer operating system featured in the Star Trek franchise. While this replica may not exactly work the way it is depicted in the franchise, Barker managed to replicate its futuristic user interface by utilizing the components offered by the Skia4Delphi library, a simple yet powerful Windows UIツールキット.
This time, from the recently concluded Coding Bootcamp 2023, Ian is revisiting his epic-looking creation in which he will add some modern touch to it. This time, the space computer will not just highlight the graphics but is now incorporated with interactive elements through AI technology.
Of course, to create the user interface, you need to take advantage of the Skia library. Skia is an open-source 2D graphics library that provides common APIs that work across a variety of hardware and software platforms. It serves as the graphics engine for Google Chrome OS, Android, Flutter, Mozilla Firefox, Firefox OS, and more. What we will be using in particular is the Skia4Delphi.
Skia4Delphi is a cross-platform 2D graphics API for Delphi platforms based on Google’s Skia Graphics Library. It is a free-to-access library that provides major components/controls like TSkLottieAnimation
, TSkPaintBox
、 TSkSvg
. Interestingly, Skia is now officially integrated with the newest version of RAD Studio.
How to Add AI Speech Generation to the Space Computer
What really makes this project more fascinating is that it is now more interactive due to the AI technology added to the system. For this video, Ian Barker will walk us through the process of adding AI speech generation to the space computer. To do so, we will be using Amazon’s cloud service – the AWS Polly.
AWS Polly is an excellent service that uses AI and Machine learning to produce very lifelike text-to-speech generation. In this video, Ian will walk us through the step-by-step process of incorporating such amazing features into our Star Trek-inspired dashboard. To top it all, the video will also highlight what else Skia4Delphi can offer and what this powerful library is capable of.
